T Test Flashcards
T test
Test for non random association between a discrete categorical variable and continuous/discrete quantitive variable
Mean
Average quantity of the dependent variable
A T- test examines associations between which two general types of variables?
Discrete categorical variable and continuous/ discrete quantitive variable
Discrete vs continuous
Which general type is always the independent variable?
Categorical
Which is the dependent variable?
Continuous variable
What does the p-value of a T-test represent ?
The probability that the same or more extreme observations could have been made if the null hypothesis was true
What is the null hypothesis of a T-test?
There is not difference in the means of the two categories being compared
What impact does sample size have if the difference in the means of some variables(i.e number of children) from two different categories (i.e geographic location) is small?
Small difference or correlation is more likely to be statistically significant when the sample size is very high
