What assist the nose gear during both mechanical and manual extension?
Two downlock assist springs that are extended when retracted. When actuation is commanded the springs are allowed to retract which helps pull the gear down.
How does the tiller actuate the nose wheel steering?

The tiller and the rudder pedals connect to an Electrical Control Unit that then sends voltage signals to the electrohydraulic servovalve.
