Systems Knowledge Flashcards
Which hydraulic system powers the primary systems in L,C,R?
Left - L Eng driven pump
Center - C1 & C2 Electric pumps
Right - R Eng driven pump
Which hydraulic system powers the demand systems in L,C,R?
Left - L Electrical pump
Center - C1 & C2 Air pumps
Right - R Electrical pump
When will the RAT light turn green?
If deployed and PSI is >1500 psi
Which air driven pump will operate if both are turned on?
C1 demand pump
Can two ADP’s operate at the same time?
No, only C1 demand pump will operate normally
What is the maximum degrees the nose wheel can turn?
70 degrees
What is the maximum degrees the rudder pedals can turn the aircraft?
7 degrees either side
How is the landing gear numbered?
When does main gear aft steering activate?
When steering angle exceeds 13 degrees
When will RTO braking activate? 3 items
- RTO selected
- Ground speed above 85kts
- Thrust levers retarded to idle
When the flaps & slats are in the normal mode, how are they powered and by what system?
Hydraulically, center system
When the flaps & slats are in the secondary or alternate mode, how are they powered and by what system?
Electrically by secondary electric drive motors
In secondary mode are the flaps & slats limited in range?
Yes, slats limited to the mid range and flaps extended to F20
Will secondary mode be automatically selected for the flaps and slats? What about alternate mode?
Yes. continue using the flap level
Alternate mode has to be manually selected
How does the autoslat operation work?
It is designed to improve stall characteristics by fully extending the slats if F1,5,15,20 are selected and there is a signal from the stall warning
When is WAI inhibited?
- When selected ON and TAT is above 10’c it is limited to 5 minutes after T/O
- If in AUTO, when T/O mode is selected and less than 10 minutes has elapsed
If SATCOM is not working will you be able to receive ACARS data in Japan airspace?
No because VHF data is blocked due to the prohibited cost. Normally this data is reformatted for SATCOM and it may be slower than normal.
From what height will the PWS give an alert on landing?
1200’ RA
Below what height will you get a RWS alert?
1500’ RA
What aural alert will you get for PWS on take off?
“Windshear Ahead, Windshear Ahead”
What aural alert will you get for RWS on take off?
“Windshear, Windshear, Windshear”
Sometimes GPS L/R can stay latched as U/S after experiencing GPS jamming. How can you fix this?
After consultation with MC, a circuit breaker reset of MMR may help restore functionality.
How long does the chemical oxygen last for in the 300 series aircraft (Ex EK)
22 minutes
How many bottles fire when the cargo fire switch discharge is selected in the air?
2 bottles fire
What is the maximum main tank capacity of the 300?
29.1t
What was the purpose of modifying the fuel scavenging system in all of the ER & some or the 300 aircraft?
Unreliable performance of the scavenge system.
The jet pump is relocated to a warmer part of the CWT to prevent ice build up at the pump.
Uses the fuel jettison pumps and pumps after 45 mins for 4hrs after CWT pumps are shut down (to allow for detection of a fuel leak).
If the Center scavenge system has not been modified in the 300 series, what implications does this have?
If using CWT add 320kg as per FCOM limitations
Door cycling procedure for 300, if you are somewhere where there is no approved engineer to sign the CRS what must be done?
The fuel door cycling procedure must be done by flight crew after each refuel whether CWT fuel is loaded or not. This is detailed in normal procedures FCOM
How long is WAI inhibited for after take off in auto and on?
Auto - 10 mins after takeoff
On - 5 mins after take off if TAT>10’c
What indications are different for windmill and x-bleed start?
Windmill for example just has in magenta FL300 275-300kts
X-BLD is shown for cross bleed. Cross bleed requires the start selector for the affected engine to ON before fuel control switch to run
If dispatching in the ER with SATCOM inoperative, is there anything that needs to be done with the coms set up?
HF R should be set to data mode
PM callouts for LVP approach? When do these occur?
40ft “No Flare”
25ft “Retard” (A/T in use and IDLE not enunciated)
0’ “No Rollout”
How many track miles from the start of downwind for a visual approach?
16nm
What kind of ACARS data channels are available in the 300 and the ER?
300 only VHF & SATCOM
ER VHF, HF, SATCOM
If all ACARS boxes are selected will ACARS automatically switch to a different source if one is lost?
Yes
If you are in a 300 and you lose SATCOM in Japanese FIR will you have any ACARS data?
No, VHF data is blocked because of the prohibited cost. As soon as you exit Japan FIR you will start to receive data. There is no specific MEL restriction in this situation.
Which is faster SATCOM or HF data?
SATCOM is faster
What automatic pitch compensation do you lose in secondary & direct mode?
- Thrust
- Gear configuration
- Turbulence
- Flap & speed brake
- Turns to 30’ bank angle
Which four items require a go around unless a manual landing can be made for LVO?
N - No autoland
A - Auto throttles (cat 3B)
S - Speed brake extended
A - Autopilot disconnect
Can you cool the cabin down by running just one engine and no ground air?
Unlikely
Cross bleed start, if you have at least 25 PSI do you need to increase thrust?
No
1.5 psi in the cabin equates to about how many feet in the air?
4000’
If TCAS OFF in amber is displayed on the ND what does this mean?
TFC is selected, but the airplane is below 400 RA, TCAS remains in standby mode
What does THR REF mean?
Thrust is set to the reference thrust limit displayed on the EICAS
What does THR mean?
A/T applies thrust to maintain the climb /descent rate required by the pitch mode
BLEED LOSS BODY, What are the major considerations with this failure?
As explained in the checklist, gear retraction time will increase to approximately 3 mins because the ADP’s will not be working. This has a severe go around performance penalty. If EO avoid high altitude airports or where terrain is a factor in the MAP
