Important Regions

A

France:
Northern Rhone - classic Syrah region, only black grape
allowed in appellation.
Cote Rotie - very steep
Hermitage - one steep south-facing slope, makes up
entire appellation.
Crozes-Hermitage - flatter appellation surrounding
Hermitage. Lower prices, higher yields, mechanized.
South of France - single varietals, sometimes blended

Southeastern Australia:
Borossa Valley - oldest Shiraz vines, low yields
Hunter Valley - high cloud cover & sea breezes
