Synaptic transmition Flashcards
Synaptic transmition
the process which neighbouring neurons communicate with eachover by sending chemical msseges across the synapse that seperates them
Synapse
Define
Where one neuron (presynaptic) can send a chemical messge to an adjacent neuron (postsynaptic)
Synaptic transmition
Process
Action potential arrives at the axon terminal causing the vesciles to merge with the membrane causing the neurotransmitters to go into the synaptic cleft when they reach the neighbouring cell summation takes place
Sumation
Define
When a neurotransmitter is positivley charged it will be able to pass through to the post synaptic neurone (Excitatory neurone), and the negatively charged will be used to equal it out (Inhibatory Neurone).
When the threshold is reached the new action potential will be formed
