Sympatholytics Flashcards
Alpha receptors agonist
Norepinephrine
Epi
Phenylephrine
Used to treat prostate hyperplasia (orthostatic hypotension can be a side effect because it blocks alpha 1)
Prazosin and Tamsulosin
Alpha 1 antagonist used to treat HTN in young people with Adrenal Adenoma
Phentolamine and Phenoxybenzamine
Cancer in adrenal glands increases
ephedrine
Beta agonist
epi
norepinephrine
isoproterenol
Betablocking drugs
propanolol
metoprolol
atenolol
labetalol
pindolol
timolol
nebivolol
Betablockers do what
decrease force and decrease rate
used to treat arrhythmias and patients at risk for MI
because they decrease the workload of the heart
Propanolol is used in
treating stage anxiety or exam anxiety rather than benzos
decreases physiological effects does not work on CNS
Betablockers can also be used to treat
glaucoma
You want selective B1 blocker why?
Don’t want to block B2 because it is in the respiratory tract and if blocked, could cause contraction which is undesired.
