Cholinergic drugs Flashcards
Drugs must be specific in interacting with either
nicotinic or muscarinic receptors , not both
Direct acting cholinoreceptor stimulants
Bethanechol
Carbachol
(nicotinic receptors)
used to help manage myasthenia gravis
Bethanechol
direct acting cholinoreceptor stimulant
Carbachol
direct acting cholinoreceptor stimulant
Cholinimimetic alkaloids
pilocarpine (used to treat glaucoma)
nicotine(binds to muscarinic)
Choline stimulants
Diarhea Urininary incontinence Miosis Brady Bronchoconstriction Excitation of muscles and CNS Lacrimation Sweating Salivation SM activation
Cholinolytics effects
Constipation Uriniary retention dilated tacky bronchodilation sedation no tears dry skin dry mouth low activity of SM
Neostigmine
Cholinesterase inhibitor
Physostigmine
cholinesterase inhibitor
Both neostigmine and physostigmine can be used to treat
AD and Myasthenia Gravis. Also can be used to help restore certain functions (I,e.. stimulate bowels, urination, or muscles.
Atropine
antimuscarininc drug
Scopolamine
antimuscarininc drug –also called Itropium
Anticholinergic side effects
Mad as a hatter red as a beat dry as a bone Hot as a hare blind as a bat
