what vaccines should be given 2-3 weeks before farrowing?
- E. coli + Clostridium perfringens type C
- erysipelas, bordetella bronchisepticum, pasteurella multocida type D toxoid (atrophic rhinitis)
mycoplasma hyopneumoniae vaccination
- vx all pigs in the herd
- vx piglets at 1 wk and booster 2-3wks later OR vx with single dose from day 1 of age or older OR vx sows and then vx piglets at weaning
streptococcus suis vaccine
- disease is mainly in the farrowing house and nursery
- commercial vaccines available, best ones are generally autogenous
actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae vaccine
usually given to pigs 6 weeks of age or older with a booster 4 weeks later
swine influenza vaccines
killed vaccine that does not offer much protection from other strains
salmonella cholerasuis and typhimurium
parenteral and oral vaccines available
hemophilus parasuis (glassers disease)
- disease in the nursery
- vaccinate pigs 4 weeks of age or older
