A

Governance - This is to do with how an organisation is governed.

- Lease expires soon in our office building therefore we’re looking at environmentally friendly office spaces
- Recycle

Why is sustainability important in the Real Estate sector?

A
  • Climate change: energy use in buildings
  • The carbon impacts of buildings through their construction, refurbishment fit out and demolition is also important

Why else is sustainability important?

A

The climate change act 2008 was amended in 2019 to require the UK to achieve ‘net zero carbon’ by 2050. An interim target of reducing emissions by 78% by 2030 was subsequently introduced.

Many funds and REITS have decided to target net zero emissions by 2050 under a Better Buildings Partnership.
