BREEAM – Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method
LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
What are eligible credits for BREEAM score?

When do you require an EPC?
- When it is newly built.
- When it is sold.
- When it is let.
- All commercial buildings over 50sqm.
What is the definition of sustainable development?
“Sustainable development is development that meets the need of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
It is taken form the UN report Our Common Future, more commonly known as The Brundtland Report
What is the “Triple Bottom Line” concept?
Essentially another name for the 3 pillars of sustainability – Social, Economic, Environmental. They are sometimes referred to as the 3 P’s – People, Profits, Planet
What action do you personally take in your role to increase sustainability?
- Limit the amount of paper I print.
- Plan my journeys effectively to reduce travelling time.
What is the target for Scotland’s emission reductions?
- To reduce by 42% by 2020
- To reduce by 80% by 2050
These are based on the 1990 baseline.
Why are EPC’s required when selling or letting a property?
To comply with Scottish Climate Change Act 2009. Section 63 also dictates that an energy efficiency improvement plan should be in place for non-domestic properties over 1000 sqm.
