Surveying Infestations Flashcards
The compass method
Provides a quick and accurate estimation of a weed infestation when you can see the submersed vegetation with the naked eye or when the plants are primarily growing along the edge of the water body. Use triangulation/compass+ map to create an area of infestation. Hard to use because most submerged vegetation is scattered throughout the water body.
The GPS method
Uses handheld GPS + boat to travel along edge of weed infestation and track the boundary.
The transect method
Method to measure submerged aquatic weed infestation that requires a boat, accurate map of the water body, a tachometer and a Fathometer. Best way to estimate weed population not easy to see plants with the naked eye.
Weed Hook
Tool that allows you to collect aquatic weeds at several points within a weed population, both above and under water.
