Equipment And Technology Flashcards
Agitation System
A gas powered manual device that stirs or mixes a solution in a sprayer. Used to mix inversion oils, wettable powders, and solutions containing polymers. Hydraulic vs mechanical agitators.
Bottom treatment
A spray treatment method that places herbicide next to submersed plants growing at the bottom of a body of water. AKA “Deep water injection”
Invert Emulsion
A blend of water and inverting oil that forms droplets of water surrounded by oil.
Subsurface injection
A spray treatment that places herbicide just below the surface of the water. Controls submersed weeds that grow close to the surface.
Wetting Agent
An adjuvant that causes a liquid to contact plant surfaces more thoroughly.
Surface treatment
Used to control floating, emersed, and ditchbank plants.
Direct metering system
Draws water directly from a lake, pond or other water body and places a set amount of herbicide into the water before it is applied. Only effective for mixtures that do not require agitation.
Fathometer
Used to measure the depth of the water.
Tachometer
Monitors speed when measuring long distances over water.
Centrifugal Spreader
Device that uses mechanical force to sling herbicide granuals onto the surface of the water.
Boom application
Method used to apply a product uniformly over a large area
Handgun spraying
Method used to apply herbicide to floating, emersed, and ditchbank plants, allows you to select which plants/area to treat and avoid non target plants.
Polymers
Often added to herbicides to reduce drift by thickening the spray mixture. Should stay between 0.1-0.5% of total spray volume.
