Surveillance & Comms Flashcards
What do the TCAS symbols mean?
- white hollow diamond = other traffic
- white solid diamond = proximate traffic
- amber solid circle = TA
- red solid circle = RA
Where does predictive windshear come from?
Weather radar
Where does reactive windshear come from?
FAC
When will PWS provide warnings?
Starts scanning at 2300 ft AGL and provides warnings below 1200 ft
When are windshear take off alerts inhibited?
You will get no alert below 50 ft and speed above 100 kt
When are windshear warnings inhibited at landing?
Below 50 ft
What calls and PFD warnings will you get for predictive windshear in take off and approach?
“windshear ahead, windshear ahead”
“go-around, windshear ahead”
W/S AHEAD in red
What calls and PFD warning will you get for reactive windshear?
“windshear windshear windshear”
WINDSHEAR
What are the GPWS modes?
1) Excessive rate of descent
2) Excessive terrain closure rate
3) Altitude loss after takeoff or go-around
4) Unsafe terrain clearance not in landing config
5) excessive deviation below glideslope
What happens if you press the systems switch?
It inhibits the five basic modes
Can you turn off terrain and still have the basic modes?
Yes
What calls will you get for mode 1?
Excessive rate of descent
“sink rate, sink rate”
“pull up”
What calls will you get for mode 2?
Excessive terrain closure rate
“terrain, terrain”
“pull up”
What calls will you get for mode 3?
Altitude loss after take off
“don’t sink, don’t sink”
What calls will you get for mode 4?
Descent below glideslope
“too low terrain/gear/flaps”
What calls will you get for mode 5?
Descent below glideslope
“glideslope”
What is the terrain callout for enhanced GPWS?
“terrain ahead”
What does the arrow next to the TCAS symbols mean?
Climb or descent rate of more than 500 ft/min
When will you get RAs?
Above 1100 ft in a climb or 900 ft in a descent
What do the RMPs do?
Radio Management Panel
- give flight crew control of all VHF radio comms systems
- provide back up to FMGCs for controlling radio nav systems
Which RMP do you get in EMER ELEC CONFIG?
Only RMP 1
What are the CIDS?
Cabin Intercommunication Data Systems
- two directors connected in parallel one active, one standby
- transmits, controls and processes signals for lots of cabin systems
- main componenets are the FAP and attendant panels and DEUs (decoder/encoder units)
What are the two DEUs?
Type A - for passengers, including call button, lighted signs
Type B - for attendants, installed near exit doors, smoke detectors, handsets, slide and door pressure sensors
How long does the CVR record for?
2 hours
