Suprahyoid muscles (dave's notes) Flashcards
What is the origin of digastric?
Anterior belly from digastric fossa on the posterior surface of symphysis menti. Posterior belly from base of the medial aspect of mastoid process
What is the insertion of digastric?
Firbrous loop to the lesser cornu of the hyoid bone
What is the action of digastric?
Elevates the hyoid bone, aies swallowing and depresses the mandible
What is the nerve supply of digastric?
Anterior belly is mylohyoid (Vc), and posterior belly is fascial nerve VII before it enters the parotid gland.
What is the origin of stylohyoid?
Base of the styloid process
What is the insertion of stylohyoid?
Greater cornu of the hyoid bone
What is the action of stylohyoid?
Elevates and retracts the hyoid bone, aids swallowing and retracts the hyoid bone.
What is the nerve supply of stylohyoid?
Facial nerve before it enters the parotid gland
What is the origin of mylohyoid?
Mylohyoid line on interior aspect of mandible
What is the insertion of mylohyoid?
Anterior 3.4 to the midline raphe, posterior 1.4 to the superior border of the hyoid bone.
What is the action of mylohyoid?
Elevates the hyoid bone and supports and raises the floor of the mouth. Aids in mastication and swallowing
What is the innervation of mylohyoid?
Myelohyoid nerve Vc
What is the origin of geniohyoid? What is it deep to?
Inferior mental spine on the posterior surface of symphasis menti. Mylohyoid
What is the insertion of geniohyoid?
Superior border of the body of the hyoid bone
What is the action of geniohyoid?
Elevates and retracts the hyoid bone, depresses the mandible
