Suprahyoid Muscles Flashcards
Mylohyoid
O: Mylohyoid line of mandible
I: Mylohyoid raphe and body of hyoid
N: Nerve to Mylohyoid (CN V3, mandibular nerve)
A: elevates hyoid, floor of mouth, and tongue during swallowing and speaking
Geniohyoid
O:Inferior mental spine of mandible
I: Body of Hyoid
N: C1 via Hypoglossal Nerve (CN XII)
A: Pulls hyoid anterosuperiorly; shortens the floor of mouth; widens pharynx
Stylohyoid
O: Styloid process of temporal bone
I: Body of Hyoid
N: Facial N (CN VII)
A: Elevates and retracts hyoid, thus elongating the floor of the mouth
Anterior Belly of Digastric
O: Digastric Fossa of Mandible
I: Intermediate Tendon to body and greater horn of hyoid
N: Nerve to Mylohyoid, a branch of inferior alveolar nerve
A: Working with infra hyoid muscles, depresses mandible against resistance; elevates and steadies hyoid during swallowing and speaking
Posterior Belly of Digastric
O: Mastoid notch of Temporal Bone
I: Intermediate Tendon to body and greater horn of hyoid
N: Facial N (CN VII)
A: Working with infra hyoid muscles, depresses mandible against resistance; elevates and steadies hyoid during swallowing and speaking
