Muscles of the Anterior Thigh (Flexors) Flashcards
Pectineous
O: Superior Ramus of Pubis
I: Pectineal Line of Femur
N: Femoral Nerve (L2, L3), may receive a branch from obturator nerve
A: Adducts and Flexes Thigh; Assists with Medial Rotation of Thigh
Psoas Major
O: Sides of T12-L5 vertebrae and discs between them; TPs of all Lumbar Vertebra
I: Lesser Trochanter of Femur
N: APR of Lumbar Nerves (L1, L2, L3)
A: Act conjointly in flexing thigh at hip joint and in stabilizing this joint
Psoas Minor
O: Sides of T12-L1 vertebrae and IV Discs
I: Pectineal Line, Iliopectineal Eminence via Iliopubic Arch
N: APR of Lumbar Nerves (L1)
A: Acts on Lumbar Spine (weak trunk flexor)
Iliacus
O: Iliac Crest, Iliac Fossa, Ala of Sacrum, and Anterior Sacroiliac Ligaments
I: Tendon of Psoas Major, Lesser Trochanter, and Femur distal to it

A: Act conjointly in flexing thigh at hip joint and in stabilizing this joint
Sartorius
O: ASIS and Superior Part of Notch Inferior to it
I: Superior part of medial surface of Tibia
N: Femoral Nerve (L2-L3)
A: Flexes, Abducts, and Laterally Rotates Thigh at Hip Joint; Flexes leg at Knee Joint, (medially rotating leg when knee is flexed)
Rectus Femoris
O: AIIS and Ilium Superior to Acetabulum
I: Via common Tendinous and independent attachments to base of Patella; Indirectly via Patellar Ligament to Tibial Tub
N: Femoral Nerve (L2-L4)
A: Extend Leg at Knee joint; also steadies hip joint and helps Iliopsoas flex thigh.
Vastus Lateralis
