Q

What are supports and what are the 3 different types?

A

Supports are special types of connections between a structure and the foundation/ground
there are three main types:
- roller pin
- fixed pin
- encastre (clamped)
These support types are used in different combinations to ensure a structure has the required resistance against movement

Q

What is a fixed pin?

A

These allow for rotation, but fix the body horizontally and vertically. Hinges are good examples of this kind of support
