Moments on bodies Flashcards
For a body in equilibrium, do we have additional considerations?
- force equilibrium (as for particles)
- moments
- line of action
What acceleration does Force cause?
Translational
What acceleration do Moments cause?
Rotational
What is an equation for the moment of a couple?
M = F.a (a = leverarm)
Line of action if a resultant force on a body? In this case of a body, a force has:
- magnitude
- direction
- line of action
(Same as for a particle)
How do we find the resultant of a body with more than two forces?
To find the resultant, we repeat the above process recursively
Find the resultant of F1 and F2 -> R1(of F1, F2)
Then R1 and F3 -> R2 (of R1, F3) etc
Until you find the resultant R of all the forces that give static equivalence
What is F1 and F2 are parallel, but are also equal in magnitude and act in opposite directions, i.e. F1 = -F2? or in other words, we have a couple.
What if F1 and F2 are parallel, but are also equal in magnitude and act in opposite directions , i.e. F1 = F2? or in other words, we have a couple
