Housekeeping Flashcards
what is a scalar?
Scalar quatanties have a magnitude, but not a direction
What are some examples of scalars?
time, volume, density, speed, energy, mass
What is a vector?
Vectors have both magnitude and direction. vectors representing physical quantities are either force, sliding or fixed
What are some examples of vectors?
Displacement, velocity, acceleration, force, moment, momentum
What is Newton’s 1st law of motion?
a particle remains at rest or continues to move with uniform velocity (in a straight line with a constant speed) if there is no unbalanced force acting on it
What is newtons 2nd law of motion?
The acceleration of a particle is proportional to the resultant force acting on it and is in the direction of this force. You might recognise this as F = ma
What is newtons 3rd law of motion?
The forces of action and reaction between interacting bodies are equal in magnitude, opposite direction and colinear
What is the standard form for nano (n)?
x10^-9
What is the standard form for micro (µ)?
x10^-6
What is the standard form for milli (m)?
x10^-3
What is the standard form for kilo (k)?
x10^3
What is the standard form for mega (M)?
x10^6
What is the standard form for giga (G)?
x10^9
What is the equation for Newton’s law of gravitation?
