Q

What is the advantage of taking carnitine, and how does this work?

A

Carnitine can enhance acetyl-CoA within the mitochondria by converting it into acylcarnitine, which can directly cross the mitochondrial membrane, which is then oxidized and converted back into acetyl-CoA, ready for TCA entry.

Thus can increase speed of energy supply aerobically/ non glycolysis at low intensities.

Q

With caffeine. what can be the effects for regular uses vs non users for actuate effects and performance with chronic supplementation?

A

Acutely non users gain a much greater advantage compared to regular uses.

However, in both users and non users there is still an improvement from acute ingestions. But if they are habituated to consumption, performance actually decreases.
