Superficial Structures Of Neck Flashcards
Originate: Skin/fascia of infra and supraclavicular region
Insertion: lower border of mandible, skin of buccal (cheek region), lower lip, modiolus, orbicularis oris muscle.
Action: Depresses mandible and angle of mouth.
Platysma
Originate:
Sternal head: Superior of anterior surface of manubrium sterni
Clavicle: Clavicle
Insertion: Mastoid process and superior nuchal line
Action: both working at the same time, extends the neck, elevates the clavicle and manubrium.
Sternocleidomastoid
Originates: Superior nuchal line & external occipital protruberance and spinous process C7- T12 nuchal runs from occipital protruberance to C7
Insertion: Lateral 3rd clavicle, acronium and spine of scapula
Action:
Superior fibers: Raises the scapula/create a curve, rotates the scapula.
Trapezius
Muscle of Superficial structures of the neck
Trapezius
Sternocleidomastoid
Platysma
Origin, Insertion, Action, Fiber direction of Platysma
Origin: Fascia
Insertion:
Medial fibers- lower border of mandible
Lateral fibers- attach to the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the perioral region
Action: Depresses mandible
FD: Superior
Origin, Insertion, Action and FD of Sternocleidomastoid
Origin:
Sternal- Manubrial of the sternum
Clavicular- The clavicle
Insertion: Mastoid process, lateral 1/2 of superior nuchal line
Action:
Bilateral- flexion,elevates clavicle and manubrium
Unilateral- ipsilateral flexion
FD: sup,post-lateral
Origin,insertion,action and FD of trapezius
Origin: Superior nuchal line and external occipital protruberance and spinous process C7-T12. Nuchal runs from occipital protruberance to C7
Insertion: lateral 3rd clavicle, acronium and spine of scapula
Action:
Sup fibers: raises the scapula, rotates the scapula
Mid fibers: middle portion of spine to middle of scapula. Retracts the scapula
Inf fibers: Depress the scapula (pushes the shoulder down)
FD: Sup:inf-lat, Mid:lat, Inf:sup,lat
