Superficial gluteal muscles Flashcards

1
Q

Gluteus maximus

A
  • Origin: gluteal surface of the ilium (behind posterior gluteal line), posterior border of ilium + adjacent part of the iliac crest + Lateroposterior surface of sacrum + coccyx
  • Insertion: Iliotibial tract, gluteal tuberosity of femur
    Movements
  • extension of hip
  • lateral rot of hip
  • lower fibres: adduct
  • upper firbres: abduct

Q

Gluteus medius

A
  • Origin: gluteal (lateral) surface of the ilium (between anterior + posterior gluteal lines)
  • Insertion: superolateral side of the greater trochantor of the femur
    Movements
  • abduction of hip
  • can produce a downward tilting of the pelvis = raising pelvis on the opposite side
  • medial rot (anterior part)
