A
Usually supplied as a combination products having two main components, a sulfonamide and trimethoprim
Examples: Sulfamethoxazole, Sulfasalazine, Sulfisoxazole

A
Inhibition of folic acid synthesis (bacteriostatic)

Adverse reactions:
A
Hypersensitivity reactions such as
* Rashes,
* Erythema multiforme of Stevens-Johnson type
* Exfoliative dermatitis
* Photosensitivity
* Nausea
* Vomiting and
* Headache

Drug interactions:
A
Phenytoin (phenytoin toxicity)
Tolbutamide (hypoglycaemia) and
Warfarin (enhanced anticoagulation)
