What is substance use disorder?
An SUD is to find and clinically diagnosed by a number of criteria such as social impairments, risky use, impaired control, withdrawal and tolerance.
What is addiction
The impaired control associated with a substance used disorder manifest as emotional and mental preoccupation with the drugs effects and by a persistent craving for the drug regardless of the consequences.
What are some examples of drugs that can lead to an increase in dopamine.
Cocaine aceta means nicotine and caffeine.
Morphine heroin and oxycodone.
What are some examples of drugs that produce a novel feeling in the person taking the drug.
LSD and ecstasy
What are some examples of addictive drugs that reduce anxiety
These drugs include CNS depressants such as benzodiazepines and barbiturates.
What is drug withdrawal.
An abnormal psychological state produced and repeated administration of a drug that leads to the appearance of withdraw syndrome when drug administration is discontinued or the dose is decreased.
What are the symptoms of withdrawal from stimulants.
Sleepiness, muscle pain, anxiety, tremors, low mood, suicidal thoughts and cardiovascular problems.
What are some of the withdrawal symptoms from opioids
Sweating, muscle aches, agitation, diarrhoea, abdominal cramping and vomiting.
What is cross tolerance
Cross tolerance is to find as the resistance or tolerance to one drug because of the resistance or tolerance to a pharmaologically similar drug.
What are some of the factors influencing a substance use disorder.
Genetic factors, pre-existing disorders, environmental factors and developmental factors.
What is harm reduction
Harm reduction is an approach that seeks to reduce/prevent the negative consequences of substance use and improve health without judgement coercion or discrimination and without necessarily requiring the person to stop using the substance.
What are a few examples for a potential misuse of a drug
Nature of the drug, route of administration, amount/frequency of use, availability, and inherent harmfulness
