Location of pelvis?
Inferoposterior to the abdomen
Pelvic inlet and Pelvic outlet
**Pelvic inlet
Sacral promontoary, ilium arcuate line, pectineal line and pubic crest (pubis)
**Pelvic outlet
Pubis arch, ischial tuberosities, sacrotuberous ligament, coccyx
What is the sacroiliac joint?
A strong weight bearing joint that transfers the weight of the axial skeleton to the appendicular skeleton
What is the sacrotuberous ligament do?
Create a sciatic foramen
What does the sacrospinous ligament do?
Divides the sciatic foramen into greater and lesser sciatic foramina
What are the boundaries of the pelvic cavity?
Inferior= pelvic diaphragm Lateral= obturator muscles/membrane Posterior= sacrum/coccyx, piriformis, sacral plexus Anterior= pubic bones
4 Muscles of pelvic diaphragm?
Piriformis, levator ani, coccygeus, obturator internus
What is the principle blood supply to pelvis? two branches?
Internal iliac artery (anterior and posterior branches)
External and internal iliac nodes all drain into?
Common iliac
Lower extremity drains into what node? Pelvis drains into what node?
Lower extremity = External iliac
Pelvis = Internal iliac
What duct drains into the prostatic?
Ejaculatory duct
Prostatic urethra turns into?
Membransous urethra
Perineal membrane has what glands?
Bulbourethral glands and corresponds with what sphincter external urethral sphincter
Seminal vesicles produce?
A substance to help nourish sperm in the urethra
Explain the position of uterus
Anteverted (toward/on top of the bladder) and anteflexed (curved under bladder)
What are the 4 regions of fallioian tube? Which one is opening in peritoneal cavity? Fertilization?
Ishmus, ampulla (fertilization), infundibulum and fimbriae (opening)
What are the 3 layers of uterus?
Endometrium, myometrium, and mesometrium
The vagina and uterus have their own arteries off the?
Internal iliac
What is contained in the perineum?
Erectile tissue, glands, and neurovasculature
What are the functions of the vulva?
1) As sensory and erectile issue for sexual arousal and intercourse
2) to direct the flow of urine
3) to prevent entry of foreign material into the urogenital tract
Do both males and females have erectile tissue?
Do both males and females have a gland and foreskin?
Yes, the same amount
What is the urethra? found where?
passage of urine and sperm. found in corpus spongisum inside sorpus cavernosa
What is a greater vestibular gland? Name of cyst is causes?
Sercrets muscus for vaginal lubrication, generally not palpable unless its duct is occluded
Bartholin cyst
Internal pudendal artery
Vessels in the pudendal canal (or Alcock’s canal), supplies blood to all of perineum
