stuff to know lol Flashcards
What is pharmacokinetics?
How an organism reacts to a drug/processes the drug, absorption, distribution, metabolism and secretion.
What is pharmacodynamics?
How the drug affects the organism.
What ion has a high concentration inside the cell?
Potassium.
Why is the resting membrane potential negative?
More sodium ions outside cell than potassium ions inside the cell.
Where are Purkinje neurones found?
The cerebellum.
Cilliary contract…
zonular relax and eye gets more round
Rods?
Light and dark
Cones?
Colours
What is missing in smooth muscle?
Troponin.
Cross bridge activation?
Phosphorylation of myosin to allow it to undergo cross bridge cycling. Ca2+ binds to calmodulin that binds to myosin light chain kinase and activates the enzyme. atp phosphorylayes the myosin light chains in the globular head - allows myosin to bind to actin
Varicosity?
Swelling at the end of a branch from the axon of a postganglionic neurone.
Alpha adrenergic receptors?
Mediate constriction in most vascular smooth muscle.
Beta adrenergic receptors?
Dilation of vascular smooth muscle and lung airway
Muscarinic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle?
Bronchoconstriction.
Pyloric sphincter?
Ring of smooth muscle and connective tissue between the antrum and duodenum
