Tasks, tests and exams for marks.

What are flashcards?
Flashcards are small cards or pieces of paper on which you write key points and short bits of information.
What are mind maps?
They link information together in a logical way using flow diagrams and key terms.
What is a mnemonic?
A word, a sentence or a song that helps you to remember something.
What is a summary?
A shortened version of your work that includes the main ideas and key words of the work.
How does talk and listen work?
You read your notes out loud to yourself and listen to what you are saying.
How does move about work?
You walk around while you are reading or repeating your material.
How do you study with music?
Playing soft music in the background while you study.
Name 3 key elements of studying successfully.
- Having a study plan.
- Having a quiet study place.
- Having your study materials organised.
What is a visual learner?
Someone who learns best through pictures, maps and colours as well as visualising how things work and are connected.
What is a musical learner?
Someone who uses sound, rhythm and music to memorise information.
What is a kinaesthetic learner?
Someone who needs to move around while studying in order to memorise information.
What is a verbal learner?
Someone who needs to read, write and speak to memorise information.
What is a logical mathematical learner?
Someone who sees patterns and connections easily. They work through problems in a systematic way.
What is an interpersonal social learner?
Someone who needs to study in a group with other people.
What is an intrapersonal learner?
Someone who works on their own while studying. They need quiet and privacy to study.
What are the 3 main steps to writing an exam?
- Read the question carefully.
- Plan the response.
- Answer the question.
What is a school based assessment?
All formal assessment, including exams, conducted by the school throughout the year on a continuous basis.
What is higher education?
Education after grade 12.
What does HEI stand for?
Higher Education Institution, such as a university or college.
Why is it important to obtain your NSC (matric).
It allows you study at a HEI.
It allows you to obtain bursaries.
It allows you to apply for a job.
