What are pilot studies?
A
- a small scale run of the actual investigation
- requires a handful of participants
- can be used for questionnaires in order to test out questions
- can be used for obsevations to test out coding systems

Describe the single-blind procedure.
A
- it is when the details of the experiment (aims, types of conditions etc.) is kept from participant
- only researcher knows

Describe the double-blind procedure.
A
- researcher and partiticants are both unaware of the aims and conditons of the experiment
- this is done using a their party who conducts experiment
- in drug trials the conditions are unknown as placebo drugs are used
