Study Of The Archaeologist Flashcards
What is archaeology
Archaeology is is the study of the remains left by people in the past
What is an archaeologist
An Archaeologist is someone who studies the remains left by humans in the past
What does it mean when people excavate a site
When archaeologists dig up the ground to find evidence left by people in the past
How do archaeologists find sites
Archaeologists find sites using an aerial photography which is a photos taken from the ground from an elevated position for example from a helicopter or a drone.
What is the job of an archaeologist
The job of an archaeologist is to survey whether the site is worth excavating or not.
To dig trenches.
To record every record of an artefacts found .
Describe Radiocarbon dating/ Carbon - 14 dating
Radio - Carbon dating/ Carbon - 14 dating is the study of how much Carbon is left in a tissue from a certain time period. The more carbon in the tissue the more recent it was the less Carbon in the tissue the longer ago it is from.
What is a Geophysical survey
A Geophysical Survey is an X-ray of the ground taken from a drone far above, so it can locate artefacts.
What is pollen Analysis
Pollen Analysis is testing how much pollen has been left on a sight from a certain time period.
Describe conservation
Conservation is when historic object are protected / preserved so they do not decay.
4 ways archaeologists can view sites to see if excavation is necessary
Radiocarbon dating
Pollen analysis
