Structure Of The Kidney Flashcards
What is the outer layer of tissue in the kidney?
The cortex.
What is the inner layer of tissue in the kidney?
The medulla.
What does urine leave the kidney in?
The ureter.
What is the point where the ureter meets the kidney?
A funnel called the renal pelvis is formed.
Where are nephrons located and what do they do?
They’re in the cortex and medulla and they filter waste products from the blood, forming urine.
What do the pyramids of the cortex drain into?
The minor calyces.
What do minor calyces drain into?
2-3 minor calyces drain into each of the 2-3 major calyces.
What do the major calyces drain into?
The renal pelvis which empties through the ureters into the bladder.
What is the cortex?
The outer layer is tissue in the kidney.
What is the medulla?
The inner layer of tissue in the kidney.
What is the ureter?
The place where urine leaves the kidney.
What is the renal pelvis?
The point where the ureter meets the kidney a funnel is formed called the renal pelvis.
