What are the ovaries?
A
The almond-shaped glands located close to the lateral pelvic walls, within the peritoneum.

What happens in the ovaries?
A
They’re the site of ovum release and also the production and release of the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone.

Are ova present at birth?
A
Yes, millions of ova are present at birth, they degenerate over time and run out by the time of menopause, when the ovaries atrophy.
