Describe the structure of the uterine tubes

Describe the structure of the uterus
Consists of two horns and a body. Within the walls of the uterus are two tissues: endometrium and myometrium
Describe the structure and function of the myometrium
Consists of strong bands of muscle lying under the endometrium. These muscles provide contractions to move sperm up to the uterine tubes at mating and expel the foetus at birth.
Describe the structure and function of the endometrium
The internal lining of the uterine lumen and is richly supplied with blood vessels. It secretes nutrients to nourish sperm and embryo.
Describe the function of the cervix
Protection of the uterus from infection by bacteria
Prevents entry of fluids containing harmful microorganisms
Secretion of of mucus - lubricates the vagina
Describe the function of vagina
Semen is deposited at ejaculation
Bladder of the female passes urine through the urethra
Describe the two main function of the ovary
Produce gametes in cyclical patterns
