Muscles & movement Flashcards

1
Q

Explain the sliding - filament model of muscle contraction

A

Actin and myosin interact with eachother, myosin undergoes a chemical conformation change. This pulls the actin filament closer to the centre of the sarcomere
Binding of the actin by myosin moves the actin along the myosin filament and release of the actin filament uses energy supplied by ATP

Q

Explain how a skeleton combines with an antagonistic muscle arrangement to provide a mechanism for movement

A

A skeletal muscle is attached at either end ot the bone with an articulation. Agonists muscle contracts (shortens) and responsible for movement
Antagonist relaxes muscles
