Structure and functions of living organisms - Respiration Flashcards
How does the process of respiration produce ATP in living organisms
the breakdown of glucose into carbon dioxide and water, with the release of energy that is used to produce ATP
What does ATP do
Provide energy for the cells
What are the differences between aerobic and anaeroebic respiration
Aerobic - Uses oxygen, happens slower, releases more energy (ATP)
Anaerobic - Doesn’t use oxygen, Happens quicker, releases less energy (ATP)
What is the word equation and balanced equation for aerobic respiration in living organisms
Glucose + Oxygen ———->
carbon dioxide + water + energy
C6H12O6 + 6O2 —-> 6CO2 + 6H2O
+ energy(ATP)
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in animals and plants
Glucose —>
ethanol + carbon dioxide + energy
(C2H5OH) (2ATP)
Practical: Investigate the evolution of carbon dioxide and hat from respiring seeds or other suitable living organisms
