Structure and Function of synovial joints Flashcards
What is a synovial joint?
A freely movable joint
Name all 7 characteristics of a synovial joint
Cartilage, Synovial Membrane, Bursae, Ligament, Joint, Capsule, Synovial Fluid, Tendon
What does cartilage do in a synovial joint?
Prevents friction between bones and covers the end of a bone
What does a synovial membrane do in a synovial joint?
Produces synovial fluid and is on the inside of a joint capsule
What does the bursae do in a synovial joint?
Helps reduce friction between muscles and bones. A sack filled with synovial fluid
What does the ligaments do in a synovial joint?
Connects bone to bone
What does the joint capsule do in a synovial joint?
Holds joint together and protects them and covers the bone
What does the synovial fluid do in a synovial joint?
Lubricates the joint allowing smooth movements
What does the tendon do in a synovial joint?
Joins muscle to bone
Define a joint?
A place where two or more bones meet
