Structural and Skeletal Formula and Skeletal Formula and Functional Groups. Flashcards
1
Q
What does Structural Formula show?
A
- Structural formula shows the minimal detail for the arrangement of atoms in a molecule. E.g. CH3CH2CH3 AND CH3CH2CH2Br, then into CH3(CH2)8COOH.
2
Q
What is the Skeletal Formula?
A
Skeletal formula is a simplified organic formula, with hydrogen atoms removed from alkyl chains, leaving just a carbon skeleton and associated functional group.
3
Q
What do two parallel lines symbolise?
A
Two parallel lines represent a double bond.
4
Q
What must be included in the Skeletal Formula?
A
Functional groups must be included in skeletal formula.
