Organic reagents and their reactions Flashcards
What is Homolytic fission?
Homolytic fission, each bonded atom takes one of the shared pair of electrons, which produces two radicals.
What is Heterolytic fission?
Heterolytic fission, one of the bonded atoms takes both of the bonded pair of electrons.
What is a Nucleophile?
A nucleophile is an atom (or group of atoms) that is attracted to an electron-deficient centre or atom, where it donates a pair of electrons to form a new covalent bond.
What is an Electrophile?
An electrophile is a reactant that attracts an area of high electron density, accepting an electron pair.
What is an Addition reaction?
In an addition reaction two reactants combine together, forming one product.
What is a Substitution reaction?
In a substitution reaction, an atom or group of atoms is replaced with a different group of atoms.
What is an Elimination reaction?
In an elimination reaction, one reactant reacts to form two products.
