Isomerism Flashcards
What is Structural Isomerism?
Structural isomerism exists when molecules are composed of the same number and type of atoms, but these atoms are arranged in different ways.
What is Stereo Isomerism?
Stereoisomerisms are compounds with the same structural formula, but with a different arrangement of atoms in space.
What must occur for E/Z Isomerism?
For E/Z isomerism a carbon-carbon double bond must be present and each carbon in the double bond must be attached to two different groups.
What is E/Z Isomerism?
E/Z isomerism is a type of isomerism in which different groups attached to each carbon or a C=C double bond may be arranged differently in space.
What is Cis-Trans Isomerism?
Cis-trans isomerism is where a non-hydrogen group and hydrogen on each of a C=C double bond. Cis is on the same side, Trans is on different sides. Cis=Z, Trans=E.
