Q

How are Halogenoalkanes formed?

A

Hydrogen halide adds across the double bond of an alkene to produce a halogenoalkane; HCl, HBr, and HI – hydrogen halides are gases at room temperate and are bubble into liquid alkanes.

Q

Why does electrophilic addition take place?

A

Double bond has a high electron density due to the pi electrons in the double bond. Electrophiles attracted to pi electrons – electrophilic addition.
