Further reactions of Alkenes Flashcards
1
Q
How are Halogenoalkanes formed?
A
Hydrogen halide adds across the double bond of an alkene to produce a halogenoalkane; HCl, HBr, and HI – hydrogen halides are gases at room temperate and are bubble into liquid alkanes.
2
Q
What is the Hydration of an alkene?
A
- Steam + Alkene -> Alcohol (High temperature/pressure – presences of phosphoric acid catalyst) known as hydration of an alkene.
3
Q
Markinokoff
A
NEED TO COME BACK TO.
4
Q
Why does electrophilic addition take place?
A
Double bond has a high electron density due to the pi electrons in the double bond. Electrophiles attracted to pi electrons – electrophilic addition.
