Middle Cerebral Artery
Most common
CL Hemiplegia
UE>LE (sensation loss primarily in arm and face)
Homonymous hemianopsia
L MCA: Aphasia (global is mainstem MCA is affected)
R MCA: poor judgement
Anterior cerebral artery
Rare
CL hemiplegia
LE>UE
Possible symptoms: mental confusion, Aphasia, CL neglect
Posterior Cerebral Artery
Persistent pain syndrome
CL pain and temperature loss
Possible symptoms: homonymous hemianopsia, Aphasia, thalamic pain syndrome
Vertebral-Basilar Artery
Very serious, often results in death (basilar supply to brainstorm and pons)
If survival: locked in syndrome
- pons affected: quadriplegia, bulbar palsy
- only communication is with eye blinking
Other vertebral artery symptoms: vertigo, coma, diplopia, nausea, dysphasia, ataxia
Anterior inferior cerebellar
Unilateral deafness CL loss of pain and temp sensation Paresis of lateral gaze UL Horner's syndrome * Nystagmus Ataxia Vertigo
Superiors cerebellar Artery
Severe ataxia
Dysarthria
Dysmetria
CL pain and temp loss
Posterior Inferior Cerebellar
Wallenberg’s syndrome: impaired sensation in IL FACE and CL TORSO AND LIMBS; accompanied by:
- vertigo
- nausea
- hoarseness
- dysphasia
- ptosis
