Electronic Strike Package-Execute: authorization to power up/spin up missiles and execute missions
LSP
Launch Sequence Plan: planned mission data for flight paths manually put into TTWCS
INDIGO
Paper Strike Package: authorization to power up/spin up missiles and execute missions
VERBAL
Comes from TSC over EHF NET 680
ORDERS COME BY
PAPER AUTHORIZATION THROUGH RADIO
STRIKE ORDER OF EVENTS
RECEIPT TASKING, EMs plan, EMs send, TSC, MMs, 10min, 2min, 1min
STRIKE ORDER OF EVENTS
(1)RECEIPT OF TASKING VIA LSP/ESP-L/VERBAL (2) EMs PLAN OTW ROUTES, MMS PRESELECT MISSILES. (3) EMs SEND SCO (Strike Coordination Overlay) FOR OTW ROUTE APPROVAL FROM LAC. CO APPROVES OTW ROUTE FROM PRINTED HARD COPIES (4) TSC SENDS EXECUTE ODER VIA INDIGO/ESP-E/VERBAL. (5) MMs START INITIALIZING MISSILES FROM PRE-SELECTED CELLS. (6) 10MIN UNTIL FIRST LAUNCH, FINAL APPROVAL ON PLANS FROM CURRENT TRACK PICTURE. (7) 2MIN UNTIL FIRST LAUNCH, SOUND THE SALVO WARNING ALARMS AND CLOSE THE TOXIC GAS VENT DAMPERS. (8) 1MIN PRIOR TO LAUNCH, EXECUTE MISSION USING +1/-1 MINUTE AUTHORIZATION.
NAVIGATION: (thawk uses for)
WAYPOINTS, FPPWP, SCO, TOA, TOT, TOL, NAVSSI
WAYPOINTS
Points used to fly the missile around obstacles to reach the FPPWP, FPPWP does not count as a waypoint, min of 2 waypoints, max of 5
FPPWP
First Preplanned Waypoint: point that TSC takes responsibility
SCO
Strike Coordination Overlay: shows the route of the missile OTW
TOA
Time of Arrival at the FPPWP
TOT
Time on Target
TOL
Time of Launch
NAVSSI
NAVigation Sensor Systems Interface: GPS data that lets the missile know where to look for the satellite after the launch.
3 WAYS TO NAVIGATE IN FLIGHT
TERCOM DSMAC GPS
TERCOM
TERain Contour Matching: KEYWORD RADAR ALTIMETER: altimeter which is received by onboard radar: utilizes preloaded evaluation data maps
DSMAC
Digital Scene Mapping Area Correlation: matches mission data picture with picture taken by onboard camera: picture shrinks as it approaches the target
GPS
Global positioning system
ALARMS (3)
SALVO WARNING, MAX SALVO, TOXIC GAS VENT DAMPERS
SALVO WARNING ALARMS (when, duration, events)
activated 2 min before each launch and at the time of launch. Lasts 2min. in the event of a misfire/restrained fire: alarms are sounded every other minute for 30 min to close toxic vent dampers
MAX SALVO FOR THAWK
24 powered at once, 12 modules, 1 THAWK per ½ module at a time
TOXIC GAS VENT DAMPERS (Thawk launch)
What are they use for?
closes intake ventilation to protect the crew
VERTICAL LAUNCHING SYSTEM modules and cells
FWD LAUNCHER: 4 MODULES, 32 CELLS AFT LAUNCHER: 8 MODULES, 64 CELLS
MISSILES AIR
SM-2 AND ESSM (Standard Missile and Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile)
MISSILES SURFACE

MISSILES SUBSURFACE
VLA Vertical Launching Anti-Submarine Rocket (ASROC)
MISSILES LAND
TLAM Tomahawk
ESSMs have
4 missiles in one cell
DUD
non-functional missile (Inoperable)
MISFIRE // HANGFIRE
booster does not ignite, cell hatch must be kept open for 30min in case of a delayed launch (hangfire)
RESTRAINED FIRE
booster ignites, and the missile doesn’t leave the canister due to the restraining bolts.
Canister overtempt
(190+/- 8degrees) alarm of sets off on MCP and sends an alert to the LCU > deluge will activate for 90-110 seconds consecutively to COOL THE WARHEAD > deluge will stop, reassess, and if the overtemp still exists, will begin again until the overtemp condition does not exist
DELUGE ACCUMULATOR TANK max normal alarm gallons & psi
Can hold up to 28gallons of fresh water; filled to 15 gallons; low water alarm will go off at 13 gallons; pressurized to 225psi
IF DELUGE ACTIVATES AND RUNS OUT
FIREMAIN WILL BE UTILIZED*
MAGAZINE SPRINKLERS
Provide emergency cooling of fire in the launcher and are actuated by HSDs
HSDs
Heat sensing devices: has a fusible link that melts at 160 +/-3 degrees, activating a spring that shoots a puff of air to the PRPV, which trips at 8 psi and activates Magazine Sprinklers
