Towing evolutions
Equipment (8)
4X4 shoring/chop block- used by towing ship to payout towing hawser.
Chaffing chain-used to prevent ship towing hawser on aft chock
Jack stay- a wire rope used to assist towing ship in paying out of towing hawser
NATO link- a link used between all NATO vessels; can be attached to towing hawser to give all ships a attachment point that is correct for towing.
Pelican hook- attached to the chaffing chain; secure chaffing chain to towing pad eye on towing ship.
Prevered messenger-6-9 threaded manila line that is the length of the ship; used to assist in passing the towing messenger to the towed ship
Towing hawser - used to tow ships
Towing messenger: used to bring towing hawser to towed ship

Flight deck 2A
The flight deck is 78 feet long
Flight deck status conditions:
Red deck- helos cannot land or take off
Amber deck - start and stopping of rotors, breakdown, chock, and chain, traverse helo,
Green deck - taking off and landing helos,
Continue green deck- vertrep
Flight deck crew (7)
Helo control officer: personnel in charge of talking to the bridge, helo tower, and flight deck crew
Green: maintenance (airdeck personnel)

White-FDO (flight deck officer)
Blue-chock and chain: placement of removal of chocks and chains tied downs during flight operations. Also cargo load spotters during VERTREP OPS.
Yellow - LSE (landing signalman enlisted): responsible for visual signaling to the helo, assisting a safe takeoff and approach and landing to the ship. Directs the pilot to the desired deck spot and general safety conditions for flight deck area, to include control of the flight deck crew.
SGSI
Stabilize glide slope indicator (SGSI): connected to ships gyro; gives helo a stable point to focus on while the ship is rocking. Green too high, amber just right, red too low for pilot.
Horizon reference system
the horizontal bar on the aft missile deck that creates an artificial horizon for the pilots so they know if the ship is leaning

5 Landing line up line/circle - a line and circle that assist the pilot in landing
6 Vertrep t-line - used to guide the hole in where to drop cargo; must be aft of t-line in order to give helo room to land in case of emergency Vertrep ball and t-line-obstacle clearance is ensured when the helo hovers with its rotors hubs on or aft of the line
7 Deck edge marking light- marks the edge for the flight deck at night
8 Homing beacon - a signal on the mast that broadcast out 100 miles for a helo to home in on the ship. Flashing white light tit will be visible 360 degrees azimuth.
