Q

Crum and Langer (2007)

A

female room attendants working in hotels were measured on physiological health variables affected by exercise (e.g. weight, bp)

  • they were split into 2 groups; control and ‘informed’ group
  • the informed group= told the work they do is good exercise and meets recommendations of an active lifestyle
  • actual behaviour did not change in informed group
  • 4 weeks after= informed group perceived to be getting more exercise
  • this compared to control group who showed a decrease across a range of physiological measures
  • CONCLUSION= mindset and beliefs moderates the relationship between exercise and health
