Research Support
Saunders et al
meta-analysis of 37 studies of effectiveness
- reduce anxiety in performance situations (pub speaking)
- improve performance under stress (exams)
- for moderate and severe anxiety
Demanding Therapy
demanding = not all complete or start
requires time/ effort/ motivation
Stage 3 needs C to apply techniques in RL
- not applicable to all situations
VS Demanding Therapy
demanding but flexible
techniques can be altered to specific needs
can be used for individuals/ couples / families
duration can vary or done online
Overcomplicated
has many techniques to battle stress, but all need control
SIT works because C gains more control over stressors and life
- should focus most on control
Henkel-Dittman et al
- SIT is ineffective for those without control
Quick VS Slow Fix
SIT > drug therapy as its a long term solution
but DT is preferred as its a quick fix for symptoms
- don’t need active effort
- able to mentally learn to cope with stressors
