- Can be positive or negative

- Positive Stress
- Pushes you to try harder or do better
Ex: New Job, Tryouts, Sports

- First Stage of Stress
- Adrenaline is released/Adrenal gland releases cortisol (a stress hormone)
- Provides a burst of energy
- Causes many body changes
- Heart beats faster
- ↑ in blood flow to muscles
- Breathing quickens
- Pupils widen
- Become more alert
Definition of “Fight or Flight Response” (2)
- During the Alarm Stage
- Changes prepare you to “fight” the stressor or try to escape
What is the Resistance Stage? (3)
- Second Stage of Stress
- Body trys to Recover from Stage One
- Stressor prohibits body from returning to homeostasis
Tired, irritable, and cranky during this stage
What is the Exhaustian Stage? (3)
- Third Stage
- Body is worn down and no longer has energy to fight off the stressor
- Exposed to Illness
Usually caused by divorce, death, or serious family problem
Only occurs if stressor continues for a long time (weeks, months, years)
