Strengthening of materials. Flashcards

1
Q

What is cold work hardening? What changes does it make to the material structure?

A

Pl;asticaly deforming material causing dislocations to slip.

increase in strength but reduces ductility.

Q

What is grain size strengthening?

A

Reducing the size of the grains in the material structure to increase the amount of grain boundaries which reduces dislocations. Can increase toughness.
