visual imagery strategies

A

method of loci- visualise a well known room and have a list of things to remember, associate these things with objects around the room. eg pay electricity with the flicking light. it works because its based on the idea we have good visual spatial memory anyway and combined with familiarity of rooms/pathsyou can visualise info and semantically process it. this uses great amounts of cognitive effort which will leave a deeper memory trace.

A

catorgarising- with a list of words/info you catorgarise them into groups. theyre your semantic links with underlying themes. eg coke and juice=drinks. this works because you use a lot of cognitive effort and make your own semantic links which leaves deep memory traces

A

acrostics- invented sentence/poem with first letter cues. eg Never Eat Shredded Wheat (north south east west) this works because its easier to remember info in a rythem and meaningful sentence and uses cues and clues to make retrieval easier for the rain. its semantically placed into the memory.
