What are ductions?
They are movements of one eye
What are versions?
This is when both eyes move in the same direction
What is vergence?
When the eyes move in opposite directions
convergence
divergence
What are yoke muscles?
superior rectus and inferior oblique
What is strabismus?
Misalignment of the visual axis
What is esotropia?
The deviant eye turns inwards
Define Exotropia
The deviant eye turns outward
Define hypertropia?
The deviant eye turns upwards
Define hypotropia
The deviant eye turns downwards
What is incomitant strabismus?
It is when strabismus involves impairment of one or more eye movements
What is comitant strabismus?
It is when there is no impairment of eye movement
What are the causes of incomitant strabismus?
- vranial nervefallout- CN III,IV,VI
- myasthenia gravis
- thyroid orbitopathy
- blow out fracture and orbital mass
What are te names of CN III, IV, VI?
- CN III- oculomotor
- CN IV-trochlear
- CN-abducens
What are the two tests for testing strabismus?
- The corneal light reflex test
- Cover test
Why do we need to urgently refer children with concomitant strabismus?
To correct the amblyopia
To reduce the chance of retinoblastoma
