To use later for energy, growth, or survival during times when food or nutrients are not available.
What do plants store in roots
Starch – stored for energy (e.g. carrots, sweet potatoes)
What do plants store in stems?
Starch or water – stored in swollen stems (e.g. sugar cane, potato)
What do plants store in leaves?
Starch or water – (e.g. onion leaves, aloe vera)
What do plants store in fruits?
Sugars – used to attract animals for seed dispersal (e.g. mangoes, apples)
What do plants store in seeds?
Oils, starch, or proteins – to feed the growing seedling (e.g. beans, nuts, corn)
What is stored in the liver
Glycogen – a form of glucose stored for quick energy
What is stored in fat deposits?
Fat (lipids) – stored under the skin or around organs for energy and insulation
