Describe features of ileostomy and colostomy

A

Ileostomy - Found in RIL, it has a spouted appearence with liquid output
Colostomy - Left sided, flush with skin and output is solid

What are features of gastrostomy?

A
  • Connection between stomach and abdominal wall.
  • Used for feeding directly into stomach

What is the difference between loop and end stomas?

A

End - permanent and the end part is brought to skin.
Loop - Temporary stoma used to allow a distal portion of bowel and anastamosis to heal after surgery. Usually reversed 6-8 weeks later

A

Used to drain urine bypassing the urerters, bladder and urethra. A ileal conduit is formed which allows urine to drain into a bag

  • Local skin irritation,
  • Parastomal hernia
  • High output, dehydration and mulnutrition
  • Constipation
